I created Zereuwk as my hero for World of Warcraft in 2004. I based her story from my life experiences. As I was creating her back story, I imagined what her world would be like in such a chaotic and torn world. Granted not all Domestic Violence environment are gruesome as you hear from the movies.
Zereuwk has a twin brother, Zarekius. Their father was a Kaldoreian warrior and their mother was a Human cleric. Idril Helyanwë and Dr. Helena Grayson loved them dearly. They brought them along wherever they went. This time was different.
During the Third War, Lordaeron fell to the Scourge. While Idril was ordered to aid the Sentinels in Astranaar, Helena was at Athenaeum of The Scarlet Monastery in Tirisfal Glades standing by to hold off the plague that was infecting the settlements of Lordaeron.
Raene Wolfrunner and the Sentinels held back the furbolgs.
"I don't understand why they're attacking us," Raene exclaimed to Idril.
"At least for now they have retreated," Idril concluded.
"Thank you for your help. Whatever it is that is causing the Thistlefurs to venture farther from their territory, it must be vanquished," Raene added.
"As far as I know our Priestess and Archdruid are doing their best to convince Illidian to come to his senses. I trust they know what they're doing, but I don't think I have the strength to continue doing this. My children need a home. Would it be too much to ask, if they could stay here in Astranaar?"
Raene hesitated. She knew Zereuwk and Zarekius would not be accepted by the villagers. "Are you sure you want to do this, Idril?"
"I can't have them with me seeing all this war! They need to know what it's like to have a home. A place they can stay and make friends," anguished Idril.
"They need you, Idril. I understand traveling with them is burdensome. You know how our people feel about humans. Let alone your children. They're better off with you," reasoned Raene.
"No; I can't have them be infected by the plague or killed by the Sourge," insisted Idril.
"Then I'll take them to Dolanaar," suggested Raene. "The priests and druids can care for them while you're helping the Alliance. Your children will then learn the ways of Quel'dorei," she added.
Idril gave a long sigh. Raene was right. His only worry is Zarekius, who has already shown great contempt towards Kaldoreian peers. He nodded his head and called his children. They were 15 when they said their last goodbye to their father.
Raene had them stay in Astranaar longer than she promised Idril. Priestess Tyrande needed all the Sentinels to guard all villages in Kalimdor during the Long Vigil.
Zereuwk and Zarekius were sent to Dolanaar when they reached their 20th birthday.
Here's the kicker. I was 28 years old when I drafted this story in 2007. The reign of Chaos was released in 2002. 5 years apart from World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade release. Taking into account Zere (created in 2004) and Zack (created in 2007) being 20 in my backstory, minus the 5 year release difference between Burning Crusade and Reign of Chaos, that would make them 15 years old during the Reign of Chaos Warcraft expansion.
From my real life experience, I was 15 when I became the youngest born-again Christian member of Word for the World Church in the Philippines. That was when my world changed. We kept moving to different places because my dad couldn't land a job wherever he went. My father was a landscape architect. His clients didn't pay him enough. Sometimes he refused to negotiate his prices. Needless to say, my mom wanted to settle down somewhere we could call home. Off to America she dragged us on March 9, 1999. I was 19 years 9 months and 3 days old.
In 2008 and 2009, my life was chaotic. I drafted a lot of notes about Zereuwk and Zarekius' adventures during the Burning Crusade expansion. Unfortunately, my account was hacked. I submitted a ticket to restore Zereuwk and Zarekius back to my World of Warcraft account. Thankfully, they were able to restore some of my characters, who were above level 20.
When the Wrath of the Lich King was released, I drafted notes to where I accepted the fact that Idril never survived the war during the Battle of Mount Hyjal. Due to Idril's death, Helena went to fight off the plague on her own. Zereuwk went on a personal journey to look for her mother while Zarekius was trapped in the Twisting Nether (to account for the hacked state he was in).
In 2010, my father passed away from complications with sepsis and diabetes. I stopped writing. I couldn't bring myself to continue Zereuwk's and Zarekius' story.
3 years later, I summed up the courage to write again. I drafted that during Zereuwk's adventure between Draenor, Pandaria, Northren and the Maelstrom where she found clues of what happened to her mother. The clue landed her in the Broken Isles. Her mother became a Forsaken, a servitude citizen of Sylvanas Windrunner, now leader of the Horde after the battle at the Broken Shore.
On August 24, 2020, I stopped all communications with my mother. Her maltreatment towards me was overwhelming and toxic. She has been listening to a lot of Televangelists who incite hatred towards other Christians who don't subscribe to their religion. I mean, 3 years prior to the moment that led to this incident, we were connecting. At least I thought we were.
So, if I finish the story on Zereuwk's last journey, will it parallel my future life?
